Aerospace Engineering is a specialized branch of engineering that deals with the design, development, testing, and maintenance of aircraft and spacecraft. Since this field directly contributes to flight safety, innovation, and national development, only students who meet certain eligibility criteria can apply for the course.
Educational Qualification
To pursue Aerospace Engineering, students must have a strong background in science and mathematics. The basic requirements are:
- Passed 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognized board.
- Minimum 50–60% marks in 12th standard (varies by institute).
- Students holding a Diploma in Engineering (AICTE-approved) are also eligible for admission in some institutes.
Age Limit
The age criteria for the Aerospace Engineering course are generally:
- Minimum age: 16 years at the time of admission.
- Maximum age: Around 28 years (may vary depending on the institute or entrance exam rules).
This ensures that students begin their academic journey at the right stage and have enough time to pursue higher studies or professional opportunities in the field.
Medical Fitness
Since Aerospace Engineering may involve practical training, research, and working with advanced technology, candidates are expected to be physically and mentally fit.
- Must be medically fit.
- Should not have severe colour blindness or disabilities that may hinder practical training.
- Good eyesight is required (with or without corrective glasses).
Some institutes may ask for a medical fitness certificate from a recognized doctor at the time of admission.
Entrance Exams
In India, admission to Aerospace Engineering is usually through national or state-level entrance exams such as:
- JEE Main and JEE Advanced – for admission to IITs, NITs, and other premier institutes.
- Maharashtra-level engineering entrance exams (like MHT-CET, KCET, etc.).
- Some private universities also conduct their own entrance tests or offer direct admission based on 12th marks.
Other Requirements
Apart from academic and medical eligibility, successful Aerospace Engineering students should have qualities like:
- Strong interest in aviation, space, and advanced technology.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Dedication to innovation, safety, and responsibility.
- Ability to work in teams and handle challenging situations.
